The backplate and wing are two separable components of a scuba harness. Each piece is attached to a buoyancy compensator, which establishes positive buoyancy on the surface and neutral buoyancy underwater. Backplate is modular and can be taken apart from the wing. These systems are an excellent choice for divers who aren’t sure what type to buy. Here are the pros and disadvantages of each.
Stainless steel
A stainless steel back plate and wings can be purchased with or without an attached harness. The wings and backplate are made from 316 stainlesssteel. This material is highly resistant against saltwater. The strap is manually polished and cut using a CNC cutter. They can also be used with a single-air-tank system or dual-air-tank systems. You can remove the stainless steel wings and backplate for easy storage.

Backplates made from stainless steel are much heavier than those made of aluminium. Stainless steel backplates can be used in colder areas to reduce weight. Stainless steel backplates, unlike lead pieces, can be easily adjusted to fit most diving tanks. To help you determine the right weight for you, a Halcyon Dealer will provide weighting advice. This backplate is also more durable, so it doesn't require as frequent replacement.
Plastic
The buoyancy of the plastic backplate and wing is not good, but it is still beneficial when replacing the weight on your weightbelt. Jacket BCDs have pockets and weight integration. These ancillary options are not available on the backplate and wings. These components can be purchased separately. Both are available separately. We'll discuss the pros and con of each. It is important to choose the right back plate for you.
Softpack harness
There are many kinds of harnesses, both for wings or backplate. These include wing BCDs and backplates. They come with all the components needed, including a harness and backplate. Softpack BCDs make technical divers' lives easier. They are lightweight and flexible and do not attach to rigid plates.

Steel backplate harnesses lack adaptability. This harness is not suitable for single tanks. It is only compatible with double tanks with permanent bands. The steel harness is the most rigid option but is clumsy to use when traveling. This steel harness can only be used with double tanks. The steel backplate is also not recommended for use on the land. It can be converted to work with single tanks by attaching adapters, but this is not recommended.
