Santa Barbara Island

Santa Barbara Island offers some outstanding offshore dive locations. To reach these sites, visitors can board a visiting boat. These sites are usually rocky and are good hunting and photography grounds. In addition, there are many healthy kelp beds and purple hydro coral in these areas. The visibility is also excellent for Southern California waters.

On the island, visitors can also participate in kayaking and snorkeling. You can even tent camp, if the weather allows. A large pinniped population also calls the island home, including harbor seals, northern elephant seals, and California sea lions. These animals can be seen in the rocks surrounding the sea lion nestery. There are several overlooks on the island.

Anacapa Island

Anacapa Island is home to a variety of marine life. One of America's first Marine Protected Areas can be found in this region. The area offers diving opportunities that are both excellent for experienced and beginners. The water around the island is relatively warm, making it ideal for wetsuit diving. The surface temperature can reach as high as 70°F (21°C) during the summer and fall. However, temperatures in winter can fall as low at 50 degrees F (10 degrees Celsius). It is recommended to wear a 7mm suit. During these months, visibility is usually at least 100 ft (30M).

You can reach Anacapa by diving charter boats as well as the Island Packers. There are many dive locations on the island. One of them is a 40-foot-tall archrock. These sites can also be viewed from the surface using snorkeling gear.
